This is the book that originally inspired my interest in the persecuted Church, and eventually inspired the song "Flame".
Richard Wurbrand spent 3 years in solitary confinement under the Communist regime in Romania. He was drugged and tortured for his faith, and deprived of all comfort. He said that during that time, all external evidence of God's goodness had been removed, yet his faith flourished. "Alone with God" is a collection of sermons that Wurmbrand wrote and delivered every night to his "imaginary congregation", there in his cell as a way to occupy his mind during the years of intense solitude. This book has been a tremendous encouragement to me over the years, and I hope it will strengthen your soul in times of trial, as it has mine.
